Welcome to ICFC NorQuest!

Intercultural Child & Family Centre - NorQuest provides care for over 72 children. Our playrooms are spacious with a wall of windows and direct access to the outdoor play space. As a purpose-built centre, this location features child-sized washrooms connected to each playroom, a storage room for families' strollers, and a small worship space for educators and families.

Each child’s journey is documented in a portfolio that includes educator bios, artifacts such as drawings and photos, and “learning stories” that make the child’s learning visible for the child and parents alike.

VISMAY

"Amazement & Wonder" - Ages 1 to 2 years


This playroom has been generously sponsored by the Allard Foundation! 

We chose this Hindu name to reflect children's natural curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring new things: in Vismay, we foster a sense of wonder among young learners. 

Here, we provide a range of play opportunities from gross motor play on its loft to quiet play in cozy, soft areas. A variety of open-ended play materials gives children opportunities for sensory exploration.

AMANI

"Peace & Wishes" - Ages 2 to 3 years

This playroom has been generously sponsored by former NorQuest College Board Chair, Dr. Ann Colbourne!

Amani refers to "peace" in Swahili and "wishes" in Arabic, so you can't deny its positive energy. Open-ended play materials, loose parts, and natural materials are used to encourage creativity, exploration, and a sense of wonder.

AWÂSIS

"Child" - Ages 3 to 4 years

Awâsis translates to "child" in cree. Children's natural curiosity about the world is celebrated and encouraged through play in cree culture. They are seen as an important part of the larger community and are valued for their unique perspectives and contributions.

This playroom offers an engaging environment and many opportunities for hands-on learning. Excursions and visits within the College offer chances to explore the environment around them.

SARANG

"Love" - Ages 4 to 5 years

This playroom for children 4 and 5 years of age who are not in kindergarten is yet to be sponsored but boasts a clear view of Edmonton Fire Station #2 on 107 Street which is an ongoing interest of all the children in the centre. 

Sarang means "love" in Korean! This room features a loft to support gross motor and dramatic play in the playroom. Our oldest children play an important role in planning and decision making in this playroom. Creative invitations to play encourage investigation and exploration as do excursions within NorQuest and to the children’s section of the College library.
